About

mollywater sitting in a field on the South Downs

mollywater is a Brighton-based indie rock artist and four-piece band, blending indie rock grit with unfiltered lyricism, wry humour and a healthy dose of emotional damage.

At the heart of mollywater’s music is an obsession with feeling things too much. Love, loss, longing and the strange aftermath of both are picked apart with an honesty that can be tender one moment and sharply self-aware the next. Drawing on influences from spoken word, indie rock and alternative pop, mollywater’s songs find the space between vulnerability and irony — never taking either entirely at face value.

Come for the yearning. Stay for the emotional damage.

There’s a certain sad girl sensibility at play, but this isn’t wallowing for wallowing’s sake. Instead, mollywater turns yearning into something playful, uncomfortable and occasionally funny, with a sound that balances raw guitar-driven energy against moments of restraint. Their live show brings that tension to the forefront: intimate and emotionally charged, but never afraid to let things get loud.

Recent single ‘Decompose’ explores the slow decay of a love that refuses to stay buried — a fitting introduction to an artist fascinated by what happens when you keep feeling something long after you should have let it go.
